When I got to work last night I was plagued with the feeling that I had done nothing that day. It oftens happens that if I work a late shift on a Saturday, I while away my time beforehand--just lollygagging around--and am immediately overcome with feelings of remorse when I get to the bookstore. However, when I stopped to catalogue my day I found that in the hours leading up to six o' clock I . . .
--ran 8 miles--attended, clapped and cheered at my school's JV football game--read a book--drove out to Chugiak and watched a HS championship volleyball game--watched an episode of "Psych"--cuddled various animals around the house (we've got a "temporary" guest cat and now everyone needs some extra TLC)--dismantled a tent--mowed the lawn--successfully made it on time for my 6-11pm shift at B&N!Not so shabby! However, I missed some big things, like actual meals, a nap and a shower! Whoops.
Several years ago, I strode confidentally into the local Sports Authority, armed with resolve to purchase a stylin' elliptical machine. After gulping at the prices (and the knowledge that pavement is free), I left the store, the proud new owner of a yellow-striped hula hoop. The timeless circle, I reasoned, would surely provide a workout as well. AND, it was only $2.99. Bargain! Well, it's sat in my garage for lo these many years until I dragged it out today.I was more than a little disconcerted to find that I couldn't keep it from slipping down to my knees or from spinning beyond a puny three revolutions. I'm telling you, there must be some malfunction! I swear I used to be rather talented in that arena in my junior high gym class. Or was it grade school? I'll have to test out another hoop for more concrete data.
